-The objective of the study are to determine where and under what conditions water quality parameters (pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, and conductivity) exceed Department of Ecoloy standards, if certain land uses are contributing to significant increases in monitored parameters, and evaluate long trem trends.

-The primary targets for this program are the streams in the watershed that have not been fully characterized in the past. Secondary targets will include streams and water bodies of local interest. The monitoring sites will be sampled over a range of normal flow conditions (higher flows during the winter months and low flows during the spring and summer months).

-The goals of this program are to:

1.) Conduct monitoring and provide baseline information.

2.) Identify problem areas in the streams or lakes.

3.) Indentify trends in watershed conditions.

4.) Help prioritize efforts at streams restoration.

5.) Educate and increase watershed resident's awareness about water quality issues.

-The data collected during monthly monitoring will provide baseline information about stream conditions, track changes over time, ans provide additional information about character of the streams and lakes within Spokane County.

-This infromation will help:

1.) Conduct compliance monitoring of approved TMDL and provide baseline information prior to TMDL process in Little Spokane River and Hangman Creek.

2.) Better define extent of point and non-point source pollution in local watersheds.

3.) Initiate a regional water quality strategy to begin addressing short-term and longterm conservation, the prioritization of implementation efforts, educatoion of landowners, planning and development of TMDL strategies, and improvement in the overall long-term water quality in Spokane County.
