The Many Hands Of Peaceful Valley
Hands are mans' most versatile extremity. They can assist at your birth, feed you, and scratch you where you itch. Unfortunately when misdirected they can also cause you misery, destroy your environment and kill you.
Peaceful Valley has known many hands. Some were beneficial, and some were destructive.
Though the future of Peaceful Valley could not be read in its' palm, the hands of its present and future citizens will have much to do with whether or not it will be a protected part of the city and receive due consideration in matters concerning itself and its' future.
Before it was discovered by man, Peaceful Valley must have been a beautiful land and peaceful place, but since then, man has been bringing about its' down fall.
First it was the hands of the Indians; fishing, skinning, branch burning hands. Then came the white settlers with their saws and axes. Lumber making, shack building and wood burning hands. Next came the railroaders and with them the bridge across the river to the west, the fill on the north bank, and the hodge-podge of bridges up river. Then the crowning touch, Maple St. Bridge, built over and through the center of the valley without regard to the detrimental effect it could have on the environment and lives of the community below. Gandy cancer hands, bridge building hands, land scarring hands.
The valley has been a temporary home for many hands. Apple picking hands from Okanogan, pea picking hands from Walla Walla and cotton picking hands from the south. The calloused hands of loggers, construction workers and carpenters, guitar picking hands, artists hands, writers hands.
Peaceful Valley needs more hands, hands that will make them proud of their homes and gardens, fewer give me hands and more helping hands, more careful hands and fewer careless hands.
What do the residents young ad old of the valley want? I think the following quotation from the Bible says it best; "My people must dwell in a peaceful abiding place and in residences of full confidence and in undisturbed resting places."
-Ed Ervin
Ed Ervin is a long time resident of Peaceful Valley. Eds' hands are always busy keeping the valley a beautiful place to live.

I wasn't sure where to post the news that I'll be living back down in the Valley for a few weeks while looking for a small 1br downtown, so I decided to put it here.

It's wonderful to be back!
