Peaceful Valley River Walk
The riverfront along the edge of the Peaceful Valley Neighborhood should be restored to a native riparian habitat. This land could be improved by removing non-native plant species with natives such as cottonwood, birch, willow, dogwood and elderberry. These species would provide cover for wildlife as well as shade and nutrients for the river ecosystem.
Key Planning Issues & Considerations:
•Survey existing condition of vegetation, topography, geology, and hydrology
•Work with local tribes to identify sensitive cultural sites
•Determine appropriate scale and form of wetland features for flow from hillside and river flooding
•Establish appropriate native plant list
•Integrate restoration with trails, interpretive features and recreational amenities
•Educate neighborhood about stewardship
•Estimated cost: $500,000 (8 acres of wetland restoration)
